The oboe has always been a popular instrument among classical musicians, with its unique sonorities and the wide range of expression which its player can achieve through its sensitive reed.

Here we offer a selection of some of the baroque composers' finest concertos for this instrument, all played in the "old style" without haste, allowing due time for the soloist to give maximum expression to his featured instrument.

Interesting to compare Vivaldi with Albinoni; Vivaldi wrote violin music for the oboe, while Albinoni wrote vocal music for the oboe. The difference is that Albinoni recognizes the oboist's need to breathe!

The Marcello is a real favourite - the work by Alessandro Scarlatti will surely become one.

The contributions of Handel and Telemann are no less worthy, bringing us a Germanic approach contrasting with the Italians. Altogether a pleasant selection of the best from the baroque oboe repertoire.
